335. Emanuel Charles Noyes

Emanuel Charles "Charlie" was born at Smannell and baptised at KnightsEnham church on 13th May 1894, the eldest son, by Revd Coles. He joinedthe Royal Navy and served during the First World War as a Stoker. Heboxed for the Navy as a middle weight and according to his son, was askedby promoters to go professional. After the Navy he may have had many jobsduring a depressed period but then joined Taskers, a heavy engineeringfirm. While living at 127 Vigo Road he met his future wife LilianBrowning who lived across the road at number 8. They married in thePrimitive Methodist Church in Andover and bought a house in Vigo Road.Emanuel died 1944 age 50, just before the end of the Second World War,but his widow lived to 1960.


338. Frederick George Noyes

Fought during the First World War. Was apparently buried alive by a shelland dug out. Worked in a shop at Andover called Home and Colonial.
